According to Cognitive Load Theory, learning happens better if students’ working memory can easily process most of the knowledge presented to them.
Using too many technical terms, or unfamiliar examples while teaching a concept, distracts students from the primary learning goal since a part of their cognition is occupied in understanding technical terms. Technical language can often add unnecessary load on working memory. Overloading of working memory hinders learning and results in poor learning outcome.
